Chianti Day
Wine & Castles
Duration: 5 hours.
Starts: Your hotel, 9:30am
Walking level: Easy.
Included: private van with driver-guide; wine tasting and lunch
Driving along the Chianti road, you will feel like you're in a living painting: the rows of vines, the olive trees and the oaks, the undulating hills dotted with limestone farmhouses or hamlets; all seems to inspire joy and invites relaxation.
Make a first stop in one of the castles in this area where history and legend intersect, telling stories about Leonardo da Vinci and his most famous painting: La Gioconda. See the gardens and the cellars, and taste some of the Chianti wine produced here.
The Chianti, name given to the wine region between Florence and Siena, offers some of the most beautiful countryside in Italy. Especially from the castles, perched on the highest hills, in defensive position, you can admire the breathtaking views so typical of calendars and postcards of Tuscany. The second stop will be in one of the most reknowned castles. With the local guide you will visit the castle cellars, learn about how they make their own wines: the Chianti Classico, the Chianti Riserva and the Super Tuscans.
After the visit, it will be time for a long relaxed lunch served at the castle premises. It will consist of the typical Tuscan dishes: cold cuts (locally produced), hand made pasta (pappardelle) seasoned with wild boar sauce, meat, cheese and fresh vegetables, all seasoned with the excellent extra virgin olive oil and the balsamic vinegar produced on premises. By early afternoon, your driver-guide will take you back to your hotel.
