This walking tour is a thematic look at ancient Rome through it's major landmarks. We'll talk about the construction, use and meaning of most of the big buildings you have in your "mind's eye" when you hear the word "Rome": the Colosseum, symbol of imperial might for more than 1,900 years; the Pantheon, the most influential building in the western world; the Circo Massimo, the 600-yard long chariot racetrack that thrilled with its fast, bloody races; the Palatine Hill, home of the aristocracy and then the emperors; and the Forum, the pulsing center of the Roman empire for almost 1,000 years.
