Assisi, hilly ancient town ranked second only to St. Peter's in Rome for number of visitors to Italy, is not only the birthplace of St. Francis, patron Saint of Italy. Here you will also find a perfectly intact medieval town with its churches, houses, squares and little lanes which offer the most incredible views over the valley. In the morning you will visit the Basilica dedicated to Saint Francis -- a jewel of art for its famous fresco paintings by masters like Giotto, Cimabue and Simone Martini.

After a walking tour with your driver-guide, leave Assisi for a drive in the luxurious countryside of Umbria. You might wish to have lunch in a lovely spot by a water source and stream, already famous during Roman times: le fonti del Clitunno.

In the early afternoon, head to Bevagna, little village of Roman origins. Here you will be surprised by the incredibly preserved Roman and medieval buildings. It will also be possible to visit a merchant's house and workshop, perfectly reconstructed with all of its original tools and implements. It will be fun to learn about the daily life and house-keeping, habits and traditions of a typical middle class family of the early Middle Ages!

By late afternoon your driver-guide will take you back to your hotel.
